Finding Peace Through Faith in Anxious Times

The Storm and the Stillness
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus sleeps peacefully in a boat while a violent storm rages around the disciples. They wake Him in a panic: "Teacher, don't you care that we are perishing?"
Jesus rises, calms the storm, and asks: "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?"
This scene plays out in our lives every day. The storms come — in our health, our relationships, our finances, our world. And we cry out: Don't you care?
He cares. He is in the boat with us.
Anxiety Is Not a Failure of Faith
Let us be clear: feeling anxious does not mean you lack faith. The saints experienced dark nights of the soul. Even Mother Teresa wrote of years when she felt God's absence. Anxiety is part of the human condition — and God meets us in it, not above it.
Practices for Anxious Hearts
Surrender Prayer
When worry grips you, try this simple prayer:"Lord, I cannot carry this. I place it in Your hands. I trust You, even when I cannot see the way."
Repeat it as many times as you need. It is not a magic formula — it is an act of the will, a choice to trust.
The Jesus Prayer
The ancient Eastern Christian practice of repeating "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me" in rhythm with your breathing can be profoundly calming. It anchors the mind to the present moment and to God's presence.Sacred Silence
Spend five minutes each day in complete silence. No music, no phone, no agenda. Just sit with God. This is not about hearing a voice or having a revelation — it is about creating space for peace to enter.Nature as Cathedral
Step outside. Look at the sky. Watch the birds. Feel the wind. Jesus pointed to the lilies and the sparrows not as metaphors but as evidence: if God takes care of these, how much more will He take care of you?The Gift of the Present Moment
Anxiety lives in the future — in what might happen, what could go wrong. Faith calls us back to the present, where God is always waiting.
Right now, in this moment, you are held. You are loved. You are not alone.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." — John 14:27
The peace Christ offers is not the absence of storms. It is the presence of God in the midst of them. And that is more than enough.
